Can you paint a portrait of my horse or dog or cat?

Yes, of course. Simply supply Shawn with clear color photos of your pet. Preferably where the animal is the only subject in the picture. If you want a painting of just the pet's "head and shoulders", zoom in closer to capture facial detail in the photo. Like wise if you want the whole body include that in the photos you supply.
Animal portraits are pretty much limited to dogs, cats, birds, and horses. However if you've got a unique animal companion inquiries are always welcome.

Are the portraits computer generated from the photos I submit?

While the artist works FROM your photos, he is not painting ON your photos or on computer generated copies of your photos – as some “Portrait From Photos” companies actually do. These portraits are all original paintings created entirely by hand merely using your photos as REFERENCE MATERIAL. All photos are returned in the same condition in which received.

Will I get to see the painting before it’s done?

Your satisfaction is important and a final sketch showing all elements of the portrait will be sent – either by e-mail attachment or snail mail for your approval. Once that sketch is OK’d the final painting process begins.

Do you frame the artwork?

Framing is such a personal thing with variables based on décor, tastes, style and expense, that framing and matting will be left for you to enjoy once you receive the finished painting, which is wrapped in a clear acetate envelope and then packed and shipped to you.

Can you work from old faded, torn or bent photos?

In most instances – if the person you want portrayed is readily visible in the photo - it is usable. That is the just one of the beauties of Shawn’s work. He can transform the imagery in your old faded photos into vibrant works of art.

Can you do a sepia toned painting?

Yes, of course – in some instances a monochromatic color scheme is desired and can be beautifully crafted in whatever style you choose.

Why does it cost more to do three people than one – especially if the painting’s the same size?

A portrait is a complex image to paint – to capture the likeness and essence of a person takes time and skill: it takes three times that effort and time to paint three people. Also full figures require more time than a head and shoulders view. And when type or calligraphy are included that too affects the price.

Can you make one group portrait from several different photos?

Of course, in the initial discussion phase Shawn will explain the best possible way to achieve this effect and the kinds of photos you need to supply him.

Can I make copies of the painting?

Once the original painting is completed, paid for and shipped you own the artwork. You can make copies for family or friends. You CANNOT however make copies in any format or by any printing process to SELL.  And in all cases the artist retains the copyright to the painting and can reproduce the image for promotional purposes.
